Floyd County Jailer Steve Little said in a statement that a detainee at the Floyd County Detention Center was found unresponsive and later declared dead on Nov. 29. According to the statement, at 12:57 p.m., jail staff found an adult male detainee, whose name was not initially released, unresponsive in a shower.

Prestonsburg police investigating inmate death at Floyd County Detention Center
FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) -The Prestonsburg Police Department is investigating the death of an inmate at the Floyd County Detention Center. On Saturday, police said inmate Jeffery Lumpkins of Hazard was found unresponsive from a suicide attempt. Lumpkins was taken to Highlands Regional ARH where he was pronounced dead, despite the efforts of medical and jail staff to save him.
